IE7 shadows then crashes

for the last two days on Vista Home Premium. I've only had Vista for two
weeks. I didn't not have this problem prior to yesterday.

The only other thing I've noticed changing during that time frame is that I
had spoken to those in charge of a Website I was unable to view since
switching to Vista and I can now view that website. That doesn't mean it has
anything to do with the problem I'm currently experiencing.

Since there are quite a number of sites that do require that IE be used, the
suggestion that I change browsers would not be the best option out there.
When IE annoys me enough I do switch to other browsers for virtually
everything and only reluctantly use IE only because I must.

I had this crash problem with windows xp and IE6 which continuously resulted
in my system having to recover from a fatal error. Each time, for more than
7 months, I dutifully sent the information to Microsoft per standard
procedure for them to use the information to fix the "unknown" error possibly
related to a "driver" which error, it should come to no one's surprise, was
never addressed by Microsoft.

This error doesn't even give any notice (well Vista does shadow just before
crashing sometimes) or allow for information to be sent to Microsoft (not
that would have any positive effect were it to allow for the information to
be sent unless wasting my time over and over again should be considered
something positive and I'd still beg to differ).

btw, Microsoft just asked me if they I would give them permission to check
on what I was doing on this site right before I made this post. I told them
NO. They don't need to monitor my activity here so that they can find out
what I use this site for.

On the chance that someone there might actually read some of the stuff
mentioned here (I really don't care if they do or don't), I will spell it
out for them right here and now in a much more direct and pity manner than
they could get from what the way they wanted to do it.

I specifically come to this site to try to address onerous and sometimes
very serious problems (note fatal system error above) with Microsoft Software
which Microsoft itself, FAILS to address.

Is that clear enough for you boys in Redmond?

So, does anyone here know what to do about the miscreant?

Have all the fun you want with the entendre, just don't screw with the
thread.

Hi,

1) Most likely cause of your problem is a plugin or addon for IE that was
recently installed. Under the Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs tab,
click 'manage addons' and disable those that are loading with IE.

2) Driver errors, sadly, are not Microsoft's problem but rather the device
manufacturer's problem. While Microsoft does write some small amount of
them, the vast majority offered to the user via the OS or Windows Update are
those that are supplied to Microsoft by a manufacturer. If they release an
update to fix an issue to Microsoft, then Microsoft can offer the solution
to you when a driver causes a crash. Otherwise not. The purpose of the error
collecting is to a) concentrate efforts on the most frequently reported
problems (and as I understand it driver issues are the overwhelming
majority) and b) watch for trends that may indicate software conflicts.
There are tens of thousands of these reports every day, and they are handled
by an automated system, not any individuals. The human element only reviews
the collated data, not individual problems. If a problem report matches via
error code and/or files involved to a known issue, then information or, if
available, a resolution is offered. If you want a technician to address a
single issue, you need to open a support incident (and this may or may not
involve a cost to you as Microsoft only offers limited free support to
retail versions of Windows).

My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com

The most likely culprit is the google tool bar. IE7 came with Yahoo which
stinks and windows live is even worse so it looks like bye bye to IE as a
browser. I'll just have to go back to using it under act of extreme unction
- what a waste.

I'll be sure to include the "driver" crash problem with the other stuff I'm
sending my other laptop back to the manufacturer to fix. It on them then.
If they can't fix it then I won't be using either IE6 or 7 on that one
either. I don't have these problems with any of the other browsers I've
tried not that I've tried many. Looks like its Foxfire or Avant for me.
I'll be asking the site that require IE to get on the ball and make sure
other browsers are compatable because this is ridiculous.
But that'll be Microsoft's problem in the end. If I didn't have to run so
many programs which require microsoft I would get an Apple instead. Things
keep improving on that front. Hopefully they will continue in that vein and
by the time I'm ready for a new computer I'll be able to buy what I like not
what I have to put up with. Sigh...

Thanks.

IE7 is actually something that I really like in Vista, and have few problems
with. I cannot understand how you have had such bad luck with it.

You can run IE with no extensions and add-ons by right clicking the icon and
using the option to do so.

Also, the Avant Browser is actually just a different interface for the IE
Trident rendering engine. You may not see your problems disappear just by
using Avant instead. Firefox, on the other hand, is totally separate, as is
Opera or Safari, etc.
