browser crashes--mozilla firefox & ie7

i have so many problems with Windows Vista, i can't even tell you. i'm
meeting with a friend soon to address many of them, but there's one i can't
tolerate or figure out. i've looked everywhere, so as a last-ditch, i'm
asking here.

Vista is crashing my browser, which happens to be Mozilla Firefox. however,
from what i've read, it also crashes IE7, so it's an equal opportunity glitch.

is there a patch i'm missing? it's getting worse & worse. it used to happen
occasionally, & now it happens every time i browse.

please help me while i still have a few strands of hair left to pull out.

You are using Firefox; not IE7!

And problems in IE7 are normally caused by 3rd party add-ons, not the
Browswer itself!

i'd never make a wild statement about anything, Mick. i did a web search,
then searched this very newsgroup, & discovered there were as many people
crashing who were using IE as i was while using firefox.

the web browsing issue is just one problem i'm having with Vista. & fyi, i
was very impressed & excited when i booted my new computer six weeks or so
ago & saw Vista. unfortunately, familiarity has bred contempt!

now, don't take it personally. have a sense of humor about it. god knows
i've had to cultivate one in order to stick with Vista.

Why don't fanboys ever get it?

You want an example how screwed up IE7 is? Glad to show you one.

Go to Tools, Internet options Security Tab, Trusted sites.
Read what is says: "This zone contains web sites that you trust not to
damage your computer or your files." Click the sites button and add
some URL's. Exit Explorer, Now attempt to log on to one of your
"trusted" sites by typing it's URL in IE7.

Dumb as dirt IE7 will pop up a "security" warning saying "The current
web page is trying to open a site in your trusted sites list. Do you
want to allow this?

Again read what IE7 says under the Security tab. "This zone contains
web sites THAT YOU TRUST". No it doesn't matter if you check or
uncheck require server verification.

Understand yet why intelligent people see Microsoft as STUPID?

If IE7 provided a option for you to add "sites you trust" why in the
fu*k does IE7 nag like a bitch when you attempt to access one of your
trusted sites?

Answer: The boys of Redmond are idiots. BTW, Vista is LOADED with all
kinds of boneheaded options you can set that once you do it either
nags about anyway or totally ignores rendering the option useless.

you have articulated a frustration i've also experienced.
not only does vista ask me for permission--or rather, tell
me that i need permission from the administrator--for
the simplest tasks, including creating a new folder, it
doesn't offer me any hints about how i can make this
stop happening!

i am the administrator.
i am the only user.

this was a problem with xp, also, & no one could ever
tell me how to resolve it.

the trial version of office included with my computer
is of the same ilk. like Vista, the resulting hassles are
tantamount to learning how to use a computer from
scratch.

i've been hesitant to take the drastic step of moving
to linux or unix, but that is what i will be doing within
the next few weeks. if i hadn't already decided to do
it, my encounter with what's-his-name (for whom
english is apparently a second or third language) would
have sealed the deal.

adam, why are you still using microsoft products? it
sounds like you're even more frustrated than me. i
know i can't take it much longer.

The only time my IE7 crashed was from the Flash add-on from Adobe. An update
from Adobe fixed this problem.
