IE7, Networking, and Classic Mode

1) Are we FORCED to use IE7 with Vista? I hope not because that has to
be the WORST software (short of WinME) that MS has ever released. I'd
MUCH rather use IE6.

2) Its not specifically stated anywhere on MS site that I can find, can
Vista Home Premium be used to run a home network?

3) Can you run Vista in Classic Mode like you can XP or are we stuck
with the warm and fuzzy AOLish interface that is VERY hard to read for
anyone even slightly dyslexic?

Thanks!

As IE6 came with Windows XP, and you could not go back to IE5 - IE7 comes
with Vista and you can not go back to IE6.

If you don't like IE7 feel free to use Firefox, or one of the other web
browsers.

And no, you can't uninstall IE7. If you don't like it - just don't use it.

If you've not used Vista and IE7 on Vista how do you know what it's like?
You can use whatever browser you want. Why would you expect that to be
different?

The theme can be changed to Windows Classic.

Wow quite hostile! Firefox is cheesier than IE7 is. Thanks for the
info though. Even if you are a bit of an ass.

You do not have to have used IE7 on Vista to have used IE7. Ive used
IE7 and despise it. Was just asking if I could install and use IE6 with
Vista. I dont 'expect' anything from new OSs as such. It was a logical
question to ask if I could go back to a previous version of IE with
Vista especially with MS's trend to tightly integrate the browser into
the OS. Not saying that this is a good or bad thing in and of itself.
Just wanted to know if it was possible.
The theme can be changed to Windows Classic.

Well that is a VERY good thing to hear. Thanks for the word.

No you can't use IE6 in Vista.

Try Opera.

Just out if interest what is it in particular that you
dislike so much about IE7?

1) No because IE7 is not tied to Windows Explorer as in previous
versions of Windows. How is IE7 worse?

2) It can.

3) Yes.

1) IE6 was the worst possible browser. IE7 is way much better!

2) Yes, Vista Home Premium runs on a home network very nicely.

3)) If you don't like the Aero theme, use the standard or classic theme and if you don't like those, then wait for the next version of Windowblinds from Stardock.

Thanks but I didnt mention anything about looking for another browser.
I asked if I could use IE6. Thats my browser of choice. I dont like
IE7 because of all the useless fluff and overhead in it plus the way it
breaks layout standards that have been in place for years.

No you can't use IE6 in Vista.

Well thats sucks big time. IE7 is way to filled with fluff and useless
'features'. Tabs (wasted overhead), search box on the address bar
(useless and a waste and I cant remove it), no option short of registry
hacks to ad the standard menu bar back at the top WHERE IT BELONGS, etc.
The "Id much rather use IE6" pretty much said, oh never mind...

Thanks for clarifying the previous answer.

I simply can't understand why anyone should prefer IE6 to IE7. IE6 was
full of security holes and it has been used as trojan horse for a whole
universe of malware. It hasn't tab browsing and it's definitely out of
date. Maybe you should give IE7 a second chance and try using it a bit more.

Obviously yes!

You can run Vista in classic mode, however you'll loose also GPU
acceleration for the graphic interface. Which is bad, as AERO improves
system speed by uncharging the CPU from rendering windows. Anyway you
shouldn't wait for a new Windowblinds version, as Vista supports themes
itself. You should only wait someone to create a "Xp theme" for Vista.

Anyway, I suggest to try using Vista GUI with a more open mind: you
should learn how-to-do things in Vista, rather than pretend to
use-the-old-way everytime. You'll discover most of operations are really
faster on Vista than thwy were on XP, using new tools it gives to you.

1) No because IE7 is not tied to Windows Explorer as in previous

Well if I am not forced to use IE7 can I elect to use IE6 which is MUCH
cleaner and simpler? IE7 has (IMHO) a ton of useless 'features' that
add nothing but fluff, glitz, and overhead that are aimed at making AOL
type users go "wow thats kewl" (tabs, search box on address bar,
standard menu bar not at the top where it belongs, navigation buttons
spread all over the place and NOT movable, etc).

2) It can.

I kind of thought so but I didnt want to ASS-U-ME anything. Thanks...

Thanks, that a major thing I want. I really hate the fluffy, glitzy,
AOLish look and feel of XP (and Vista) out of the box. Classic mode is
a lot easier to look at and read for anyone with even slight reading
disorders.

IE6 is cleaner, simpler, and does not break long established standards.
IE7, IE6, FF, every browser on the planet, and every piece of software
ever written has bugs and security holes and they always will. IE7
though has a MASSIVE amount of added features that are merely a waste of
time and overhead (search box on address bar, tabbed browsing, address
bar locked at the top above the standard menu bar, tool bars that are no
longer customizable, etc)

Obviously yes!

NOTHING is 'obviously yes'.

You dont need acceleration if you are not wasting a mass amount of your
computer power just to have all kinds of fluffy and glitzy colors and
crap all over your screen. **** windowblinds, if I wanted themes I
wouldnt be concerned with classic mode. I dont need a theme thats just
customized glitz.

Anyway, I suggest to try using Vista GUI with a more open mind: you

I suggest that you not be so closed minded to think that you think any
OS out of the box is perfect for everyone. The look and feel of the
desktop has crap to do with how an OS operates. If you are saying that
MS has made it so that you HAVE to use a particular desktop design to
use the OS then MS has gone one step further in screwing up windows than
I thought. Bottom line is that MOST people dont need to waste their
computer power on Aero and its ability to "provide spectacular visual
effects such as glass-like interface elements that you can see through".
What a waste! Nor do I need things like side bars that pop out form all
over the place. I prefer a clean simple uncluttered desktop without all
kinds of glitzy fluffy AOLish interface.

AOL type users?? Fluff, glitz, overhead, WTF?

You really do not seem to know much about this. While some people have
valid criticisms of IE7, you don't seem to make any sense at all. You
really do not know what you are talking about. There might be some problems
with its execution, bit its design is exemplary, and is second to none.

It might have been fashionable to mock AOL users a few years ago, but you
should look in the mirror.

The standard XP and Vista interfaces are horrid. Im sorry if you cannot
comprehend what it is I am saying. But things like the Aero through the
glass look are NOTHING but gee whiz useless bullshit that add to
overhead and use up computer resources on making your desktop look kewl.
It DOES look AOLish. Sorry if that offends you. The fact that you seem
to like a desktop and interface that is cluttered with look good do
nothing glitz is OK. But that no bearing what so ever on the power or
use of an OS. MS could have retained all the power and had MORE had
they not added in all the glitz.
