IE7--is it decent yet?

Whenever I check MS for XP fixes it nags me about IE7. Has it been
cleaned up enough yet to make it worthwhile to download? I
intentionally am posting this to a non-IE7 ng because I think I can get
a more impartial answer here.

I've been using it for a couple of months. The only issue I have is when
opening a bunch of tabs (like 6 or more) that contain Flash on them in
succession. Occasionally (as in maybe one out of 15-20 times) IE will crash
on me, both on my work PC and at home. Aside from that minor nuisance (I
only perform that action on one site that I visit once each day) I've had no
problems.

It is really looks like you want to buy a Motor engine to your car, does
your car support the power of the new engine?.
I.E does your Operating system clean from faulty applications and error
messages that indicate unhealthy system?.
My thinking that IE7 is developed to suite the new arena of Vista power and
security ( which yet to be tested).
I had installed it on a machine (finally as you I have been reluctant to
install it) and it is working Fine.
My opinion you can go ahead and install it if your machine trouble free.

It's decent enough, my only complaint is the annoying behavior it does when
you have the google toolbar installed. When you open IE7, click the cursor
in the google toolbar, and start typing, IE7 has this annoying habit of
lagging in response and typing what you are doing in it's default MSN
window. Where you get the world's worst search results. No other version has
this lag time for input and taking your input and sticking it into the MSN
search. Hard to believe it's not deliberate. The phishing filter in IE7
slows response down, and the default add-ons must be managed and several
disabled to get faster web page response in my experience.

Working just dandy here on several machines.

Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I will not install it
AGAIN until it is working properly. I reverted to IE6 and will
stay with it or use Firefox.

I didn't like it.
My wife didn't like it.
I uninstalled it from both of our machines and returned to IE6.
My major complaint:
If you start a another tab and, while that page is loading, click on a
tab that has already been loaded, IE7 freezes solid. Have to use Task
Manager to kill the unresponsive IE7.
I much prefer IE 6. With one instance running, I can launch another
instance and, while that page is loading, Alt-Tab back to the first
instance.
Alt-Tab, in other words, is much more stable than IE 7 tabs.

Hi Allen,

If you decide against IE7, there's a fix available to stop the nags. Go to
the Microsoft site and search for "IE7 Blocker Toolkit".

HTH Tony.

Hi Allen,

Although I do not use IE7 (I have an old and underpowered machine), many
people are using it with very positive results.

Like any new piece of code, it had its' bugs that had to be worked out.
That being said, I believe that *generally* the users having troubles with
IE7, might also have problems with many other new additions to their
machines. If one has a "clean" machine, does regular maintenance, uses some
effective malware prevention/detection, and AV, I really think one would
have minimal problems.

I realize that this is "easy for me to say", being I don't even use it, but
I've proven this to myself many times with different apps. over the years.

I've been using IE7 since it came out, without any problems at all. "Cleaned
up enough" isn't an issue, as far as I'm concerned. It has important
security enhancements, and your exposure is increased every day you run
without it.

Thanks to all who have answered my question. I believe that I'll avoid
it for a while longer. I failed to say in my post that I don't use IE in
any version regularly; I load it only when it is required. Thunderbird
is my personal choice.

No changes; it's the same as when it was released, which is great. Never
have had any problems with it. You won't either if you follow the advice
given with it.

Firefox might work better. ;-)

I would have liked to have used it for the security reasons alone. When I
first started with it and tried out the new features, it crashed so many
times that I thought I would just ignore the new bits and stick to just
ordinary surfing. That did not help! I had it crash 8 times in a 1 hour
session of doing nothing more than what IE6 could do. It is now gone from my
system.
I think this sort of issue is what the OP was talking about.

I don't know why you've had those crashes, but I can assure you that it's
not all the normal situation. I have it on all three of my computers here,
and I've installed it on the computers of many others. I have *never* seen
or heard of it crashing on any of them.
