I have IE6 in WinXP. Is IE7 a good replacement browser for it? If so, do
I need to uninstall IE6 before installing IE7?

Get Firefox. I've found IE7 to be awkward. If you must install IE7, you
must also get XP service pack 2, if you don't already have it.

I think IE7's great. You do not need to uninstall IE6 (nor could you) to
install IE7.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

And just how unhappy are you presently with IE6? I'd prefer
to just sit around and see how IE7 shakes down with a larger
user base reporting in about it. The problem with relying on
accolades from beta testers and technical reviewers is due more
to the "wow factor" than objective analysis and reporting.

In general, you would be wise to avoid installing any new program as
soon as it becomes available. It is inevitable that minor or even major
problems will crop up, no matter how thoroughly a program is tested.
This advice goes double, even triple, for a new browser.

But if you must...:)

We've used the IE70 blocking tool provided by MS to block it from being
part of any update until vendors provide support for it, and until we
see that it's actually going to give some benefit.

Firefox will void your warranty and give your cat warts.

Try out IE7 if you wish. You can always revert back to IE6 if, like me, you
find that you end up with a whole load of problems. Having said that, make
sure that you do a backup just in case. At the very least, perform a system
restore. If you look at the IE7 newsgroups, you will see that there have
been a great number of people that have had big problems with the new
browser. Of course, you only really get problems listed in a newsgroup
rather than good reports, but even taking that into account, there are an
awful lot of them!
My problem was that I had 8 crashes in the space of 1 hour - even using the
link that fires up IE7 without any add ons. I had even done all of the
pre-setup procedures first as well (see other postings in this thread for
all the things you have to do).
As far as I am concerned, IE7 still has a very long way to go. I will give
it a little while longer to see if things get better, but I rather think
that I will be going the way that a lot of others have done - install
Firefox instead.

Martin
