IE6 won't start; GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater not responding

Recently, my IE6 browser has quit working. Hopefully someone can point me to
a solution to this issue. I've googled for GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater issues,
but didn't find anything useful.

- Running XP Pro, all critical updates taken
- IE runs fine, and I close it after I'm done browsing
- Next day, I run IE, and nothing happens.
- Task manager shows iexplore.exe to be running in my processes, and shows
GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater as not responding under applications.
- Unable to end the GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater process or application.
- Unable to shutdown computer from either Start Menu or Task Manager
- Warm boot machine, log in to windows, run IE and it starts fine. Repeat
process.

Giant antispyware is now MS Antispyware and it's in Beta and it's free. If
you can't stop it running at startup uninstall Giant and see what happens,
if that fixes anything you can get the MS one, I think there's no point in
keeping Giant since it will be out of date and maybe that's what's hanging
the system. http://www.giantcompany.com/default.htm

This seems like it may be related to several other posts about similar
problems with IE not showing up but running invisibly so browse the group a
bit and see what others have to say.
