can't open ie6

I recently did the broadband download and then the
troubles began. I have xp running

First IE6 kept opening window after window after window -
finally after unplugging and rebooting the computer
serveral times the windows stopped - but the browser
loaded very slowly.

Now I can't even get the IE6 window to open. The Task
Manager shows the iexplore.exe running in the processes,
but not in the applicaitons. Then when I try to shut
down the computer it keeps saying a program is not shut
or responding and asks if I want to save or exit. If I
close all the instances of the iexplore.exe process I can
shut down. I am now using the REal One Player to surf
the net and get to my email.

I managed to get to the msn site to download any critical
updates for windows and ie6 and neither has improved the
situation.

Help!!

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
