IE6 won't open from Start-Run window

In WinXp I was able to place "www.anyname.com" in Run window and be connected to internet via IE6. Now I get message, "Windows can't find "www.anyname.com". How do I get link re-established to IE6 from RUN window? Trouble started after I loaded Mozella for a test.
Thanks

Hi AlbertS,

Please post the contents of this registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\Shell\open\command
-and-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE

To open Registry Editor, click Start/Run and type REGEDIT. Navigate to teh above locations and note down the values in the right-pane. Post them here. To set Internet Explorer as the default (which should also resolve the problem), enable the option "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" in the Internet Options, Programs tab.

oldshell REG_SZ same as above

Local_mach: default REG_SZ C:\PF\IE\iexplorer.exe

AlbertS,

Please post this in REG format. I'm asking this coz I want to know if it is defined in 8.3 naming convention rather than the long file name.

C:\PF\IE\iexplorer.exe must be changed to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe

And, what happens if you include http:// in the web address.

Class_root Default REG-SZ "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe" -nohome
oldshell REG-SZ identical

Local mach Default REG-SZ C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe
Path REG-SZ C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer;

I placed Http:// in path (no help). Before problem started www. worked without http.

I discovered that I can't open OE6 from other points:
In received e-mail messages, I click on web page, nothing happens.
Some applications I click on update or upgrade. Don't open OE6.
START>RUN> http://www.web address and www.web address don't work (message can't find)

Icons on Desktop (short cuts) using OE6 work OK.

Working on a list of what opens IE6 and what fails.

What do you suggest?

Thanks

Change "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe"
to
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

I changed iexplorer to IEXPLORER

I said, IEXPLORE.EXE. If you're lazy enough to miss the points, I can't help, sorry!

AlbertS, The App Paths value must be perfectly set, especially if you're executing the application (or a website) from RUN box. Once the App Paths is set correcly, restart Windows and try "Reset Web Settings" from the Internet Options, Programs tab.
