Running Windows XP and IE6.2600.0000 and as of yesterday IE
won't launch. When you click on the icon, a window opens
for less than a second and then shutsdown. I've tried to
rebuild Internet explorer from the XP disk, but that didn't
help. Same problem.

Any ideas?

----------------------------------------------------

When you click the Internet Explorer icon, window may flash a second and quits. Or, it may show an Error-Reporting dialog. This may be due to a malware Browser Helper Object which causes Internet Explorer process to terminate. If you see the Error-Reporting dialog, click "to see what data this report contains" and identify the Module Name causing this error. In most cases, it may be the spyware DLL. Therefore, reinstalling Internet Explorer [in case of a spyware DLL] may not help.

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet Explorer
1. Click Start, Run, and type inetcpl.cpl. [or control inetcpl.cpl]
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

*Then, you need to eliminate the parasites*

Maybe you don't have to use MSIE at all. Your choice. After that - no spyware troubles
This is just a suggestion
