IE6 won't allow me to open certain websites

V

Victoria Loh

I can't open any of my shopping websites. Not only can I not open the link
from my emails, but now even when I type in the website address, I cannot
get all the pictures to appear, or the website to open.

My server is working fine---my roommate who shares the server with me can
open all over these websites that I cannot. I downloaded Netscape and am
having the same trouble with Netscape.

As well, I cannot get the download box to pop up for some programs that I
try to download. For example, I was able to download Netscape, but unable
to download MSN messenger.

Help?

Yours,
Victoria

Hi Vic,

Are you using a firewall? Are your security setting the
same as that of your roommate? Need more info about the
server. What is the server OS, what firewall is running.

mail me @ (e-mail address removed) , i'll c what i can do..

Make sure that you do not have any parasites in your computer.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

or:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Download issues:
You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Dear all,

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I tried them all. In the end, H
Leboeuf's suggestion worked for me! I downloaded AdAware and scanned my
computer and it said that there were 17 ad trackers(?) on my system. When I
deleted them, I was able to open up all the websites I was having problems
with! Amazing! Now I'm wondering why AdAware made the difference. Just
for interest sake. Anyone?

Thank you,
Victoria
