IE6 unable to access Internet

When trying to access the Internet using our DSL line the system always returns 'unable to find server' message. I have run CWShredder, Spybot, Hijackthis and removed all the possible problems they advised. It would appear that there is still a redirect link somewhere. I have reset IE6 defaults, checked the registry and removed a couple of entries in HKCU & HKLM that identified a redirect within www.microsoft.com site, without sucess
I am now stuck being unable to get online except from my work PC. Any & all help gratefully accepted

p.s. the wife is getting withdrawal syphtoms - she cannot play her games.

This may or may not cure your problem. Try running the Winsock repair tools
on the very bottom
of this page:

Hope this helps.

Go to tools>internet options and then select
the "Connections" tab...check and see what you are set
on...sometimes if you have a crash, IE will defaul back
to seeking a dial-up connection, rather than linking to
the broadband connection. This is assuming that you have
an external DSL modem, and that you have green lights on!
If you have an internal DSL modem, then contact your ISP
and ask them to walk you through the uninstal and re-
install process...sometimes the modem needs to be
reinstalled to fix that connection issue.
