IE6 Toolbar search (Powertoy / macro) not working...

I recently rebuilt one of My PCs to get rid of some bit-rot... In all my PCs
I always have the address bar viewable on the desktop... its set with "Auto
Hide" and lives at the top of the screen. this way rather then opening a
browser and typing a URL I just type the url and the browser opens to it.

I also always install TweakUI/Powertoys for WinXP or IE5wa.exe so that I can
do quick searches for example to search google for "bambam" I would just
type "g bambam" in the address bar and it would take me to google with the
search results for bambam. Its a pretty handy thing and something I am very
used to.

For some reason with this current build of XP the behavior from the address
bar (both on the desktop and within Iexplore itself) reacts this way... "g
bambam" results in http://www.g bambam.com being attempted in the address
bar.

If you have ANY ideas I would love to get this fixed... this is a pretty
habitual way of doing things for me, and it being broken is causing
frustration.

Thanks
BamBam

Hi BamBam,

Your search hook has been hijacked... Yahoo toolbar installed? or a Yahoo
IE7 customization.

Download the registry fix from

http://www.iecustomizer.com/?url=SearchHookFixDownload.asp

You will have to uninstall the offending toolbar for the fix to glue as the
toolbar will re-install its search hook each time the browser starts.

There is a listing of know search hook hijackers on that page.

You did not mention your IE version... be warned that some of the IE5
powertoys (add to restricted) do not work or cause problems with IE7.

Regards. Dino.

Thanks a ton Rob that fixed it up!

I had already went and reset some other registry settings, and uninstalled
and re-installed iexplore thinking it should be reset... that and its a
pretty new build and I have no toolbars, but this fix reset whatever bad
mojo made it in there.

Its IE6 btw

Thanks again!
