frequently, I get an error message that "IE6 has
encountered a porvlem and must shutdown in an unusual way
and must shutdown." When you click okay, the browser shuts
down and thw windows taskbar disappears along with all the
desktop icons. I can only use alt-control-delete to shut
the machine down and eventually restart it. I use
Windowes 98 and cable internet. i have tried the system
internet explorer repair but it hasn't worked. Any Ideas?

Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet
Explorer. Temporarily disable all Norton programs, including anti-virus, win
doctor, recycle bin protect, and clean sweep. Does Internet Explorer work
properly now?

Disable any firewall or ad-blocker.

I was having that message at one time
It turned out that ICQ was the program that was causing the problem.
