IE6 repair

IE sometimes fails to load (sometimes no response at all to trying to load
it, sometimes page starts to open and then hangs). System restore usually
works, but the problem recurs a few days later. A complete reinstall of XP/IE
seems a bit drastic, with the accompanying renistallation of everything else
on the computer. I am sure that someone suggested a simpler repair tool or
command a while ago?
To complicate matters I am trying to reconnect the computer wirelessly to a
new router. Pinging the router from the computer works, but I cannot connect
to the internet (all other computers on the router are fine). However, the
router does not appear to see the computer - it is not listed on the DHCP
Client list (I did have to assign an IP address manually to the computer in
question). Sorry if this is a lot to read, but I wonder if the two problems
might be connected?

If the only times IE fails to load involve an active connection
I would try diagnosing the connection before worrying about repair.
E.g. does IE work with local files, and with the TIF in offline mode?

FiddlerTool is a good way of checking that IE is generating requests
correctly.

Very likely. However, it would be slightly off-topic for this newsgroup
to discuss the diagnosis.

Try this troubleshooter. You will probably get better diagnostic assistance
from a newsgroup which specializes in networking for your OS. There is
a link to XP Networking in it if you still need help afterwards.

Good luck

Hi Robert

I'm fairly sure the connection is OK - all the other computers are fine and
the problem occurs with or without the wirless USB adaptor plugged in. I'm
working my way through your suggestions - thank you very much.

Best regards
Hayley
