Stuart

The last couple of days my IE6 has been playing up .When you open it ,it
takes it's time to allow you to proceed further . The green indicator bars
go to the limit ,then just sit there and you cant do anything and the
mouse pointer stays as a pointer and doesn't change to a hand symbol.
..When you are eventually alloed to proceed it takes its time to change to
the next page and again the same thing happens at the next stage ,the
green indicators filling the box but preventing further operations.

Can anyone suggest what to do to fix this . Unlike previous versions of IE
there is no REPAIR facility Add/Remove Programmes .
It isnt anything to do with the sites or connection as Netsscape works
fine .
thx
Stuart

I had the exact same symptom - here is what I did:

In IE

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced

Uncheck "Enable Third party browser extensions"

Restart

Works beautifully again - I assume my PC has some sort of
spyware, etc. that I haven't tracked down yet.

Hope this helps.

Hi there!
Well, me too experienced exactly the same thing...but in my
case I solved this "freeze-problem" by removing a spyware
called "Stat Blaster" (under "Add or Remove Programs)
which I caught "somehow"!!
But possibly your tip might have done also the trick for me,
although I guess removing such spyware was a good thing
to do too; he, he!!
Best regards,
Philippe

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

I had the EXACT same problem that started sometime
between the evening of the 26th and the evening of the
27th. All worked fine until then. Symptoms exactly the
same. I ran Spybot Nuker, manually cleaned up files,
MSConfig, defrag, purging of cache cookies etc, McAfee
Virusscan that found a lot more than the Spyware nuker.
NOTHING helped - until I unchecked "Enable 3rd party
browser extensions" (thanks for the tip). Now all is
well.

However --- I want to know what caused it. How can I
find this out? What will I miss by disabling 3rd party
browser extensions? Hopefully that will not affect my
VS.Net and IIS loads any...

Please respond by email if possible. Thanks!

Unchecking "Enable third party browser enhancements" only cures the
symptoms. To fix the cause see
