After my system was taken over by a rogue website which
dumped adware-type trojans on me, I did a cleanup of the
system and rid myself of the offending programs.
However IE6 now behaves very badly as follows:
1. Each newly launched instance of IE6 is independent of
all others - e.g. I need to log into the same site for
each separate IE6 window I launch (for instance Yahoo
Mail)
2. After opening a few windows, serially or in parallel,
within a single IE session, the session will become non-
responsive - buttons and hyperlinks stop working,
branching to another URL just waits. The only option is
to close all windows within that session and launch a new
instance of IE. Sometimes this can occur in as few as
three windows!
Any ideas what is happening here and how to fix it?
I am running anti-adware software, anti-virus software
and a software firewall. The same behaviour occurs if I
disable any or all of these protections.
