I have five IE6 users haveing problems connecting to a website they receive
a page can not be displayed error like describe in Knowkedgebase article
305217

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305217

They have the latest updates and the wininet.dll is 6.0.2800.1106 the
article states that version 6.0.2800.1157 fixes this issue.

Where do I get this newer DLL for my users???

Are you using SSL 3.0 Server?

Yes the server is ssl3, but it is a third party app that uses OpenSSL.
What Windows version(s)? Q305217 says SP3

Windows 2000 SP4
for Windows 2000 takes care of the problem described in the article. Users
of other OSS should contact MS via
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS.

It is our mail server web interface and the vendor keeps claiming it is the
client that has the problem????

Please correct me if I am not understanding your answer. Are you assuming
the client is a windows 2000 machine running IE6.

It is only five windows 98 dialup, IE6 clients connecting to our mail server
web interface which is NOT IIS it is IPSwitches Imail running their own web
server on top of Win2K SP4.

The imail server server uses Open SSLv3 for the HTTPS connection.

My question pertains to the client machines not the server. This also
happened when the server was running SP3.

Only the Win98/IE6 machines are getting the "Page cannot be displayed/Server
or DNS error" message, and only when trying to connect to IPSwitches Imail
server, correct?

If you can confirm that IE Help>About>Update Version lists Q818529 on the
machines, I would use the URL to contact MS, Kevin. If MS is satisfied that
the problem is related to Q305217 you will most likely be given the location
from which Wininet.dll version 6.0.2800.1157 can be downloaded for the
machines.

Please don't rule out anything listed at
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#dns.

FWIW, problems with the Win2000-SP4 server can't be ruled out. I can't
advise you on that.[/QUOTE]
