ie6 only displays secure sites

Here's a weird problem. My IE6 will only display secure sites, but it
won't display insecure sites. I've updated with the latest cumulative
patch, repaired IE6, cleared history, cache, files, etc. And the
weirdest thing is that I can connect to all internet sites through
Navigator! I'm running Windows ME.

Any ideas, anyone?

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.

I don't have a file named "HOSTS" but I have one named "HOSTS.SAM" It
says it's a sample hosts file.

No the file has no extension. The file with the .sam extension is the sample
file.

Can you ping the site?

at the DOS prompt execute

PING www.microsoft.com


Also when using the browser do you include http://www...
in your address?

If you succed with the protocol then you may have a parasite.
