My daughter transferred a .doc file from her Mac laptop to my XP computer in
order to print it.
Since then, about 25% of web pages I go to (like wikipedia, googls, etc)
open with the banner left column, and first few lines, but the rest of the
page is blank. (I can reach and see the whole page in a parallel open FireFox
browser at the same time)

ANy ideas what opening a MAC-created .doc file on an XP box might have done
to my system?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well if the Doc is infected it can cause this behavior, so try to scan for
malwares and Vruses.
Another to try System Restore before the transfer of the Doc that might help.

I run AVG antivirus regularly, and its last run (after the .doc transfer
started this whole fiasco) was without incedent. Would you recommend some
other malware tool instead (in addition)?

I should mention that after she moved the document over, I subsequently
could not open MS Word any longer, and so uninstalled it and installed in its
place OpenOffice, which reads her files and all mine as well without incedent.

It's just that IE6 has this wierd erratic behavior ...

Thanks

You've probably already thought of this, but have you tried "repair" in IE6?
Again you may have already done this, but have you emptied the temp files
and run scandisk?

Try to Run Disk cleanp on your computer, how to run Disk Clean Up follow this:
Double click My Computer and right click your Partition (Drive) and select
Properties.
On the system properties window click Disk CleanUp under General Tab and
check all check boxes on the prompt window and click OK.
Then download this software to scan for malwares as AVG is Anti-virus I
presume as there is Anti-spyware, which one you have?.
http://www.safer-networking.org for Spybot S&D
If you still have Issue please describe the exact behavior and if there is
any Error message post back the exact Text.

The malware tool SpyBot S&D found a few things not as they thought it should
be, and after one scan + cleanup, a reboot, and a second scan + cleanup, I
can now see all the pages which previously were blank and have had no simular
issues sine that time.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks everyone!
