ie6/oe6/yahoo messenger and a new webcam

I install webcam, shutdown, restart, plug in webcam,
windows updates software, everything works perfectly, shut
down, restart, windows detects new hardware (unknown
device and microsoft tv/video connection [network
adapter]), message saying windows must restart to finish
the installation, restart, in IE get message "web page can
not be found. Unable to connect to server or DNS error"
(this happens for every website I try to access), in OE
get message "The host 'mail.xx.xx' could not be found.
please verify that you have entered the server name
correctly...". I have a connection to internet because
the little icon in task bar is flashing and says I'm
connected at xxx. I've e-mailed webcam vendor (still
waiting on response), I've contacted my ISP and they said
it sounds like webcam is throwing up a firewall after the
2nd reboot. I don't have a firewall on my computer (at
least I don't think I do). I'm getting very frustrated at
this point, as I've unistalled webcam and performed a
system restore several times a day since Sat. night. I
have Windows ME, Veo Webcam, IE6, OE6 and the latest
version of Yahoo messenger. Anybody have a clue what's
going on? The only way I can even access websites, e-mail
or yahoo messenger is if I do a system restore back to the
time before I installed webcam. Thanks in advance for
your help.

since no one wanted to help, I've figured it out. I'll
post my solution so anyone else out there having the same
problem can have a clue...

I did 2 things. Not sure which one helped but here's what
I did:

1. Look for hosts file and re-name to OLDHOSTS
2. go to www.bu.edu/pcsc/internet access/winsock2fix.html -
download to your desktop and double click the icon follow
the instructions from there. The program is a DOS
program. It will uninstall Winsock file(s) and dial up
networking adapter and re-install both.

My system is Windows ME, Outlook Express 6, Internet
explorer 6 and the latest yahoo messenger. It worked. I
don't know which one, but hey, it worked. No help from
this group.
