McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6
stops your Internet Explorer History file working. Hope
it is of some help:
Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"
Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the
left hand side On the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet
filters' section, remove the tick next to "ActiveX
Controls".
Try this: MS Knowledge Base actually has an article that
helped me resolve this issue. KB #819257 - it seems that
XP must use a new method for maintaining History
involving Active-X. If your virus scan s/w filters
Active-X controls I guess History cannot be recalled or
is never maintained after a session. I any event, I
turned off Active-X filtering and History is now alive
and well. Another user posted a similar issue a week or
two ago. They also didn't like the idea of NOT filtering
Active-X controls. I'm using a corporate McAfee 4.5.1
scan engine and think someone should come up with
something better than turning this filter on. I am going
to send e-mail to McAfee about other alternatives -
actually, perhaps, MS ought to use their noggin a bit
better when using such powerful tools as Active-X but I
am not programmer.
