Re: my former post in which I noted success yet one more
problem. The success to date is that my computer works fine
- all files avaialable and I can browse but only with
Firefox browser. IE6 remains DOA. I wonder if when I
disabled the bad file in the SERVICES control area, if that
file was in some way a corruption of a needed file for IE?
From my old HIJACKTHIS log I am copying you the file string
that was removed in Services per forum instrucitons. O23 -
Service: Network Security Service (NSS) ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) -
Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfczm32.exe.
This removal gave me back my access to files on my desktop
and also killed the continued revival of that file.
However, as noted, since then, IE6 has been unable to find
any website with a DNS error or something.
My earlier post notes I have reinstalled IE6, rescanned and
reexamined for continued virii .. adware .. but the scans
show nothing amiss. Reinstall is not helping. RE-network
wizard is not helping.
ONE other thing: IT seems MS Antispyware gets killed off at
some point. I have had to re-install it twice just to get
back to this forum! (better do a good bookmark!).

How's your antivirus protection? Have you done a full scan of the system
with current definitions? As noted in my weekly post in announcements,
there are a number of viruses which, although not widespread, target
Microsoft Antispyware processes and shut them down.

Have you tried resetting the winsock controls? Have seen a few times were
IE is down and other browsers work, then repair winsock control and
everything is back.

What verison of windows are you running?

Hi

Have you checked your hosts file if something is wrong ?

With MSAS, Advanced Tools, System Explorers - Windows hosts file

Remove everything except 127.0.0.1 Localhost

Also reset IE within menu tools (in IE).

RE Above: Plun, Bill, JoeM:
127.0.0.1 is only listing . local host
A-Virii scan is recent and repeated from Norton. Am a bit
miffed that Norton does not consider 'adware' in the 'spy'
catagory even though they are damaging. So I am also
running several anti adware programs as noted in other posts.
Winsock FIx...?? Now I am not clear if I have succeeded
here. Seems I tried that one a few days ago but forget what
I did. Can you suggest the steps to fix the winsock? Thanks
to all for your assist on this.

Joe - there are folks reading these groups on slow dialup.

Additionally, the risk of users opening up binaries posted in a public forum
to which anyone in the world can post, is high--not something we want to
promote.

I know this is not a virus, and is meant well, but please avoid posting
binaries, except perhaps pictures that illustrate an issue in a way that
isn't easily done otherwise.

Thanks!
