IE6 Download

I would like to download IE6 from Microsoft and save it to a CD so that I can load it on my friends computer which does not have a cable modem. It seems that when I download it all I get is a setup file (480 KB) and then when I run that it installs IE6 on my computer. I want to save the full 25 Meg file to a CD ROM. Please help.

Several possible solutions....

1. Not everyone has a cable "modem." I got along just fine for years
with a real modulating/demodulating modem. Tell your friend to budget
his time wisely and download the update over his phone line like most of
us did back when IE6 was released. In other words, you kids have it
easy, I had to download fifteeen megabytes through the snow every
morning and then upload fifteen megabytes back in the afternoon.

2. Why would you want to install IE on someone's computer? There's lots
of better browsers out there; some version of IE only need be kept
around for WindowsUpdate and a few poorly-coded websites.

3. Buy the CD from Mircosoft.

I am not sure if this still works, but if when you do that and it comes
up with the initial 'do you want to install' You can click a Custom
install, and then (IIRC) an Advanced and can find an option to download
and save. Note that you must be doing it from a system that matches the
'target' one - so if you want it for a Win98 you will need to do it from
a 98 machine, or it will go and download the wrong variant
