IE6 Can't Download via FTP

S

Steve

I have two computers using IE6 going through a Linksys
router. One computer can download drivers via IE6 (FTP)
the other computer, after much delay, gives the error
message "Server not found". As an example I was trying to
download the latest drivers for a Linksys wireless G nic
card. The one computer could download the file the other
gave me the "Server no found". I can't understand why I
can't download drivers this way. I have duplicated the
settings in IE6 from the computer that works to the
computer that doesn't work. I also thought it might be my
Zonealarm software so I disabled it and I still have the
same problem. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Steve

Can you create a manual ftp connection on the problem machine?

Use Win-F1 to get some online help with the procedure
or open a command window and type
ftp -?
to see the basic syntax.

This is for both fault isolation and a potential workaround.
If you can't make an ftp connection using the command line
you may have eliminated IE as a cause of the problem.
OTOH even if this does work it doesn't necessarily prove
that IE is at fault. For example, ZoneAlarm has been
found to be at fault in related cases even when the user
thought that he had removed it!

Good luck
