Was working just fine, then one day it decided that it no longer wanted to
work when I right click and then select "open in new window" - - the link
does not open in a new window. In fact, nothing happens.

How do I fix this issue?

thanks

Thank you Don - -

I went through the steps contained in the links you kindly sent - -
unfortunately the next step they say to do is "reinstall explorer" - --
which I have no idea how to do ?

Any suggestions?

Before attempting a reinstall:

* Disable any pop-up killers which you may have installed.
* Disable 3rd party browser extensions from Advanced tab of Internet Options. [troubleshooting purposes]
* Reset Web Settings from Internet Options > Programs tab
* Run IEFix: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm [This almost repairs/reinstalls Internet Explorer]

If step 2 has solved the problem, you want to see which plugin is causing this. Get ToolbarCop from here:

I have a similar problem.

This is just so ironic, to fix an O2K error in not being able to embed
graphics in HTML mail, I had to install MSIE6. Now I'm finding that
certain links in saved html pages on my hdd that used to work fine
with v5.5 all the time, now don't. Specifically, all html pages saved
in v6 are what are not working at all. Some of the v5 pages have
links that work, others no. Incomprehensible as the same coding was
used throughout.

Anyway, I've tried the IEFix app mentioned in the original thread (see
thread with title of "was:" above, "IE6 can no longer "open in new
window...") and nothing. I have followed other steps shown in that
thread with no success.

Specifically, what is now no longer working in newly saved html files
is this type of command:

"(Click <a target=_blank href="images\CHeasyPeasyFlwrs-
kkflotutfig1a.jpg">here</a> for the settings shown in the tut
originally..."

Some of the files I saved with MSIE5.5 still work and bring up
relevant elements I've chosen to be able to bring up in this way,
others no. I don't understand the problem. I've triple- and
quadrupled-checked file names and coding, etc. Nothing re these
things has changed, and everything checks out. Also what doesn't seem
to work part of the time is the "open in new window" which is why I
went to look up all messages in this ng re this issue.

I've done the fix and did a repair on MSIE6 and, as I said, NOTHING!

Can someone pls help? I cannot function without my "database" of
saved html pages. They are critical in my daily work.

Thank you.

Can you contemplate the deletion of you cache index and start with a new
slate.

Delete/Empty Temporary Internet Cache completely
How To: and with most operating system.

Well, I followed the instructions and hope that that will help. As to
the TIF files, I have two cleaner bats that take care of that. I went
through the instructions for Win98SE and saw that that's all one was
doing manually anyway (what my 2 bats do). And since I run those
files about 6 times a day (my system is getting buggy and it's on 24/7
so I need to reboot about 3 times in morning now and 3 times at night
for everything to smooth out again).

So, will go back and do the first instructions again as I didn't shut
off IE to do them. Hopefully something will do the trick.

Using a .bat file as you do will create problems in the future.
Unless of course you delete the index.bat file for the TIF while doing it.

With bat cleaner files? I've never had any problems in the four years
I've been using them and I do use them extensively, currently about
4-6 times a day.

When you make a statement like this could you be more specific please.
What exactly are you referring to? A URL would have been helpful.

(btw, I did not write the 2 bat cleaner files, they were done by
techies.)
