IE6 Browser window opening SLOWLY

A

alkaisco

No doubt this has come up before, but I'm new to newsgroups so I don't know how to search the archives yet ...

Here's my problem .. I'm using XP Pro .. whenever (even after a cold boot) I start a new browser windowusing IE6 SP2, it takes about 35 secs. before the browser window will open .. the browser itself works fine after that (and can launch new browser windows whilw surfing in a flash) ... anyone encountered this one yet ?

btw, Spyware Doctor tells me no malware is present, as does Ad-Aware SE Personal v1.06 (although the latter did find and delete 8/8 suspected malware infections) .. however, problem persists after cold re-boot

hi Alkasico,
How do you connect to the Internet, through ADSL/ISDN and the speed of your
connection?, is the problem new or it happen after SP2 or any other Softwares
installation, Do you have Anti-Virus installed.
When you connect Press Alt+Ctrl+Del and look for the Process which take the
big amount of CPU usage on your Computer and see if it is Legitimate or not.
Do you have enough Disk space and RAM on your Sys.
Hope this helps
please write back here

What do you have your home page set to?

[[Tip: No Home Page - Right Click Internet Explorer
Shortcut/Properties/Shortcut Tab. Place this In the target field:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" –nohome ]]

[[Tip: Speed up Internet Explorer - Find your IE icon and right click on
it. Select properties and then click on the Shortcut tab. In the Target line
at the very end, add -nohome to get a speed boost. ]]
from...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_i.htm

Or...
IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab |
Use Blank button | Click Apply | Click OK

Use Blank button
[[Specifies that your home page will be a blank HTML page.
The home page is the page you see each time you start Internet Explorer. You
can return to it at any time by clicking the Home button on the toolbar. ]]

about:blank will be the home page.

[[If a message MUST be posted to multiple groups, post a single message and
select all the groups (or type their names manually, separated by commas) in
which you want it to be seen. This is called Crossposting and when used
properly it is *GOOD*.

This question was posted individually to multiple groups.

This is called Multiposting and it's *BAD*.

Replies made in one group will not be visible in the other groups, which
may cause multiple people to respond to a question with the same answer
because they didn't know someone else had already done it.

This is a waste of time. ]]

With Outlook Express, which you're using...

To send your message to multiple newsgroups on the same news server, in the
New Message dialog box, click the icon next to Newsgroups. In the Pick
Newsgroups dialog box, click one or more newsgroups from the list (hold down
the CTRL key to select multiple newsgroups), and then click Add. You can
choose from all newsgroups or only those you subscribe to by clicking Show
only subscribed newsgroups.

You can send a given message to more than one newsgroup at a time only if
all the newsgroups are on the same news server. To post a message to
newsgroups on other news servers, create a separate message for each news
server.

Example:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics,
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

hi Alkasico,
How do you connect to the Internet, through ADSL/ISDN and the speed of your

high-speed cable (only the initial browser window with home-page takes 30 - 35 secs to load .. subsequent pages load very quickly

, is the problem new

new

or it happen after SP2

no

or any other Softwares
installation

not to my knowledge

, Do you have Anti-Virus installed.

yes & up-to-date
When you connect Press Alt+Ctrl+Del and look for the Process which take the
big amount of CPU usage on your Computer and see if it is Legitimate or not.

processes seem legit .. 5 - 11% CPU usage range ... seems ok
Do you have enough Disk space and RAM on your Sys.

I believe so ..
(for system files & software ) 20Gb - 14.3Gb = approx. 4.28 Gb free disk space; (for data) 146Gb fee disk space
RAM = 1Gb - 365Mb = 635 Mb free RAM

Hope this helps

btw, I downloaded BHODemon and ran it, but no unexpected browser helper objects were found, and IE6 is still taking about 30 - 35 secs to open a new window

Do you have a proxy server in place? Check your antivirus, any security
software. Any web filtering "Net Nanny" type of programs?

Did the computer always act like this? If not, what changed between the
time things worked and the time they didn't?

Does the slowdown happen in a different user account?

Since I don't use Bitdefender, I can't answer that. You should be
looking for any sort of proxy settings. With antiviruses, that is most
often caused by the extra email scanning function. If Bitdefender has
that, try turning it off. You will still be protected from viruses in
email.

Make a new user account to test.
