IE won't save usernames and passwords

IE 6 will not save usernames and passwords I use on a
regular basis. Even though it prompts me each time I type
one to do so.
I asked this question months ago and when I had time to
use the answer someone had offered me my saved links to
the Knowledge Base article that covered a related topic
had been deleted and I could not remember the major thrust
of the KB article.
It was not listed under Usernames and password problems.
