My IE won't let me access MY COMPUTER or my Control panels,
it just says explorer.exe has generated errors. You must
restart the program and try again. and has a cancel tab at
the bottom of the message. It won't let me reinstall IE and
can't get to Add/remove program either.

Reinstall Windows and it should get rid of IE-6 and reinstall the older
version of IE from your CD (probably 4 and don't upgrade any further than
IE-5.5). Do not reinstall IE-6 again, *ever.* Always wait until you find out
that whatever you want to upgrade to doesn't have the bugs like IE-6. It has
acted like a virus ever since it first came out. This upgrade philosophy
applies to any and all software. New usually doesn't mean better when it is
first new. This is more especially true if it comes from Microsoft.
Obviously Microsoft isn't compatible with itself and I can't recall a time
when it ever was.

Don't download updates from M$. Go get the free verion of Big Fix
(www.bigfix.com). It will scan your system and let you know what updates are
advisable. They test them before they release them to you and do a friendly
delivery to your desktop without asking you to enable any "easy virus
infection" software from M$ such as Active X.

----------------------------------------------------

When you click the Internet Explorer icon, window may flash a second and quits. Or, it may show an Error-Reporting dialog. This may be due to a malware Browser Helper Object which causes Internet Explorer process to terminate. If you see the Error-Reporting dialog, click "to see what data this report contains" and identify the Module Name causing this error. In most cases, it may be the spyware DLL. Therefore, reinstalling Internet Explorer [in case of a spyware DLL] may not help.

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet Explorer:

1. Click Start, Run, type Control Inetcpl.cpl
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

If this helps, read here for further troubleshooting:

This problem doesn't appear to have anything to do with IE.
Explorer.exe is not Internet Explorer.

Hi Robert,

I thought the OP was still referring to IE as he quotes "My IE won't let me access MY COMPUTER or my Control panels" and I just corelated with Internet Explorer/Windows Explorer/Control Panel [they all run BHOs in each instances] and thought this might solve the issue. However, I too feel the OP needs to provide more information here.

Thanks,
