ie won't load certain pages

PROBLEM: Most pages will load up fine (e.g. google,
hotmail). But some pages will not load, they simply just
stall with indicator bar about halfway (e.g.
freeservers.com & my online course using webCT).

DETAILS: I'm using ie6 (with most recent updates) and
running Win ME. I am running on a network (LAN) composed
of just my computer and the server (running XP). Our
internet connection is DSL.

THINGS THAT DIDN'T WORK:

-updating ie
-clean reinstall of Win ME
