Something strange happened last night to where my IE will
no longer connect to the net. I can open Explorer and type
in a webpage and it goes, but opening IE and trying to get
to a webpage is a no go. It won't even connect to
LOCALHOST ( I have IIS installed too )

I checked my hosts file, that's fine ( only entry is for
localhost )

I have reinstalled IE by changing the registry key that
says it is installed and it is still busted.

Anyone with ANY ideas, please help.

To e-mail me just remove the NOSPAM in my e-mail address...

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy Stewart

Not sure if this is your problem or not, but try running the Winsock repair
tools on the very bottom
of this page:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is best if you run one or both of the following first:

Download/install/run Ad-Aware from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
This will detect any spyware on your system. When you run Ad-Aware, click on
the ref update to get the latest up-to-date ref file, run Ad-Aware and
delete everything it finds.

If you are more advanced, then download/install/run:
Spybot - Search & Destroy from :
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Hope this helps.

Martin,

Plain and simple you ROCK!

The XP only tool at http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm worked (
but as I was doing it remotely and it required a restart I
didn't know it would change my network settings from static
to DHCP so that took some trouble-shooting to reconnect
remotely ) but everything is working now!

Thanks a ton,

Jeremy
