IE, Windows Explorer and Control Panel won't open

I am running Windows XP Professional (recently
installed). Everything worked fine for awhile.
Recently, I keep getting the following error message when
I try to open Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer or
Control Panel. The error message says "Internet Explorer
has encountered a problem and must close." None of these
applications will open...I just get the error message.
The error signature is as follows:

App Name: iexplore.exe
App Ver: 6.0.2800.1106
Mod Name: vx2.dll
Mod Ver: 0.3.1.6
Offset: 00010446

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem? Thanks!
