IE window won't close

I have installed all the service packs and updates to both
XP Home Edition and Win98ES computers and noticed of late
on both machines that sometimes the IE windows refuse to
close. I had to kill the offending windows through the
Task Manager. This happens at least once everytime any of
the computers are in use. THe comps are on a home network.
