IE unable to connect to Internet

P

Peter

We are running Windows 2000 Server with IE 6 SP1.

Hi,

We find that we are not able to connect to Internet. On the other hand, we
have installed Firefox and it connects to Internet with no problem at all.

Then I try FTP protocol with IE 6 and it is also working fine.

I have searched the web and it seems that a number of fellows have the same
problem but there is no solution yet !

The main problem is that IE 6 cannot connect to Internet means that we are
not able to run Windows Update. We would also like to know does Automatic
Update still work fine in this case ?

Thanks

Peter

Hello,

Try running IE6 with add-ons disabled

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > UNCHECK "Enable
third-party browser extensions" > OK

If it works now, one of your add-ons is causing the problem. Start Internet
Explorer as normal, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons. Enable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Options.

Restart your browser and enable the add-ons one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

If that doesn't work out,
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings >
Uncheck All > OK > OK

1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Click Connections tab, then LAN Settings button, make sure there are No
proxy server check boxes is selected click [OK].

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your
browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:
Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable
the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one
later and see which is the culprit or you can send them here in your next
post) and click [OK] to confirm your Changes.
How to manage Add-Ons:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883256

Click on Advanced Tab and scroll down under the browsing option and uncheck
this box:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) and click Apply
then OK to close your IE Properties.

2.... And also for malware from here:

http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-gb/default.htm
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

Run a scan from here on-line:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym
Download Avast Cleaner from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine:
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5
= Then Open a run command and type in these DLLs to re-register them:
regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
Note you can copy the above and paste in a Notepad and Save on the
Desktop As reg.bat file then double click it then Yes register the DLLs.

If it doesn't then your winsock is damaged and you need to repair it:
Manually :
Open a run command and type in:
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine.
Or download this tool:
WinsockFixer;
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html
Let it run and when it finished it will prompt you to reboot, do so.

If still no joy, try to run disk clean up and run this command:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] you will need your XP CD installation media for
this operation.

Hi,

I have tried disabling "third party add-on". On the other hand, we are
