have winXP with all latest service packs and updates, IEx6.
cannot change start page , when try to change "use current"
it is repalced with 'about:blank' which is a web page. I
cannot find the reason for this, I have tried 320159,
323869 to no avail, please help!

download and update spybot from safer-networking.org
,scan on easy and remove spyware or hijacker. it also keeps
backups in case you have a spyware dependent program that
will no longer work. and when changing home page you must
click apply.
and in ie,tools,options,advanced,uncheck both,'enable
install on demand',apply.to resist any more browser hijackers.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
