IE/Spyware HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Dell Dimension 4600C. OS: Win XP VER: 5.1.2600 Service
Pack: 1.0 When the internet explorer icon is clicked on,
it is very slow to open if at all. If lucky enough to
have it open, it then just continually pops up all these
ads. I have sat and waited until it stops but then blank
pages appear. I then go through the process of closing
them one by one so I can install Adware, Spybot or similar
program to get rid of the critters!! I then lock up,
reboot and it starts all over again!! Any tricks to get
to a browser to download a program??

It almost sounds like either there is a virus inside the system or if you
are running Windows Messenger (Not MSN Messenger) then you have to disable
it. The other thing that you may want to do as a temporary basis is download
Opera or Netscape browser and grab Adaware through that. Last but I am sure
not least, if you can get to Google, install the toolbar and check off
POP-UP BLOCKER.

This may block things while you get the adaware or virus protection in
there.

Try this:

Download Ad Aware 6.0 / Spybot Search and Destroy / CWShedder.
Reboot and re-start XP in "SAFE Mode".
Install each which the acount you downloaded them with
Reboot and re-start in Safe Mode
Run each "scan" in Safe Mode.
