I have XP pro with NAV, Pestpatrol, Adaware, IE6 and
everything is updated. Every time a window opens or loads
in IE I get a water dropplet sound. I actually have 4 pc
that are exactly the same but only two of them do it. I
went into sounds and set sounds back to MS defalt. Still
does it. No viri or pests (that I know of). I tried
looking for a sound like it but have not found one.

1) What are some common sound file types for programs,
adware that I can search for?

2) What is this about shutting down system restore,
booting into safe mode and doing a viri scan?

Thanks

Waro,

Try a search of your system drive for all "*.wav" files. Maybe one will be
found, with a date corresponding to when you first heard this sound. Is it
located in the folder of some undiscovered application?

If no help yet, get Filemon (free) from <http://www.sysinternals.com/>. If you
run Filemon, and filter on "*.wav", it will tell you when any such file is used,
and what process is using it.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
