IE pop-ups automatically

i had recently installed the lastest IE patch b4 installing SP2 (i had been
puttin it off because i hardly use IE anymore) and suddenly, my IE will give
me large quantities of pop-ups when im not around. (like when i only go to
the logon screen without logging out.

when i get back on, i have around 30-some odd IE windows open with ads...
this only occured after i installed the patch.

i quickly installed sp2 in hopes it would fix it, but to no avail.

i am constantly runnin various spyware removal tools like Ad-ware, spybot
S&D, CWshredder, and i religiously run the AVG virus scanner

i am hoping that sumone will be able to help me, thanks in advanced.

i know all about the net send messenger service, but what im talking about is
advertisements popping up in 30-40 browser windows while im not on, and
sometimes 1-2 when i am on my computer. i have tried various pop-up blockers,
and the one that comes with the sp2 only catches a few of them. i even have
it set to only allow direct launch of the browser window, yet they still show
up.

the only reason i ask is because it only started after i installed an update
for IE.

has anyone else had this problem?

it is still occuring and i would like to know what to do.

also, i get a program window that pops up (not a mesenger service window)
but a steel-blue window (from some program) that give me "related links" to
a page i am lookin at. none of my spyware programs seem to find it at all.

i would like to get rid of it, and stop Internet Explorer from launching
automatically and displaying ads. (my pop-up blocker is set to only allow
direct browser launch, yet they still show up).

please help.
