IE no longer responds to shortcuts

D

Dan Konigsbach

My IE 6.0.2800.1106 is no longer properly responding to
Internet Shortcuts (e.g. desktop, toolbars, Start menu,
Start button Run dialog) or when invoked from other
applications, such as the Yahoo! Messenger news tab.

An Internet Explorer window opens, but the Address remains
empty, and I get a Message box:

"Cannot find the file '<url>' (or one of its components).
Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all
required libraries are available."

If I start IE without specifying a URL, it starts up
without any errors.

I did a complete "repair" reinstall of all IE6
components. Didn't help.

The problem seemed to be triggered by the installation or
removal (not sure which) of another, third-party browser,
but it was removed before running the IE6 reinstall.

I've enabled "Internet Explorer should check to see
whether it is the default browser". It is.

Any ideas?
