ie locks up

I have Windows 98 (build 4.10.1998) and Internet Explorer
6.00.2800.1106. Quite often every thing LOCKS UP, I do not mean [not
responding]. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not work, the Windows key does not work, the
cursor won't even move. I can't even click on the DRWATSON icon in the
system tray.
The only thing that works is the power OFF button on the CPU case. I am
getting tired of ScanDisk telling me how to turn my computer off. I do not
even want to use IE. Any body have any ideas?
Thanks.

That's a symptom of a hardware or hardware driver problem
not an application problem. IE may be inducing the problem
by trying to use some services which are deficient. Video services
are the most likely cause. You could test the idea and possibly avoid
the symptom by reducing the demands on your video system
(e.g. reducing number of colors in Display Properties).

Robert;
I just got done rebooting my computer. By using the OFF button. I got
to the second web page before everything froze like Montana in February.
I guess I might as well try High Color (16 bit).

Robert;
I'm game.I changed the display from: True Color(32 bit) to (24 bit).
I'll try it awhile and see what happens. Last Sunday I had to
reformat my HDD. Anything has to be better than 4 or 16 colors or whatever
it was until I got the display drivers and everything fixed. Anyway after
rambling thanks for your reply.
