IE locking up when opening

T

The Doctor

I am having problems with Internet Explorer and am using Windows 98.
Internet Explorer locks up when it is opening. I am able to use Outlook
Express to send and receive email. The message that I get when IE locks up
is Wcmdmgr caused an invalid page fault in Module WININET.DLL

I have ran Scan Disc, Disc Defragmenter, Disc Cleanup and a Virus Scan since
the problem began. I would appreciate any help.

you have the wild tangent web driver. which is known
spyware. download spybot at safer-networking.org then
update and scan on easy mode and remove the wildtangent
spyware and see what happens...spybot also keeps backups in
case of any problems.ok.
wcmdmgr is the wild tangent component.. do a google.com
search for it with " " on either side.

kenny - Thanks for your help. I ran spybot, removed Wild Tangent and
"fixed" the other problems that were reported by the spybot scan. A
follow-up scan by spybot now shows no problems. However, IE still is
locking up. It starts to load and you can see the page start to come up,
then it stops. I have IE6 and am running Windows 98. Any other suggestions
that might help?

I can use Netscape as my browser, but the same thing happens when I try to
open a link from Netscape. If I type the address in the browser, it will go
to the site.

Also, when it tries to report the error to Microsoft, that window will also
lock up and I have to reboot the system.

No anti-spyware program catches everything. See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back

Hi Mike!

Thanks for your reply. If you get a chance, I have made a new post of my
hijackthis! log after making the suggested changes and activating everything
that was not checked in my msconfig file. Please take another look and let
me know if there's anything else I can do.

Thanks,

Doc
