IE launches .csv file with IE not Excel..

Prior to upgrading to Office 2003, when I download and "open" a .cs
file with Internet Explorer (6), it would launch Excel and open the CS
file in Excel as a separate application.

Now, after upgrading to Office 2003, using the "open" button launche
the same CSV from within IE, instead of opening the full Excel an
passing the file external.

Any ideas how to fix this?

First thing I would try is to reregister excel.

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

If that doesn't work, maybe you can verify how windows is set to open .csv
files.

In win98, I can do this:

Open Windows Explorer
Tools|Folder Options|File Types Tab

Scroll down to Microsoft Excel Comma Separated..., select it and
click the Edit button.

On the next dialog window, there's an option to "Browse in Same Window"

In win98, this option is greyed out. But maybe in your version of Windows, you
can change it.

Try unchecking this option if it's checked.

Then ok your way out and test it to see if that helped.

Good luck,

Thanks Dave,

That was a good idea, and something I will remember, but it did not
solve my problem. I forgot to mention I use Windows 2000. I also
checked file associations and they are correct for Excel.

I'm wondering if my question should be directed at an IE forum
instead!

I'd actually head to google and search the IE newsgroups first--you may get
lucky.

But if not, I'd head toward one of those other newsgroups.
