IE Keeps rebooting my computer

What could be wrong?
This just recently started happening.
What happens is once I launch IE (latest version) and want to click on a
link it'll just sit there and do nothing. Then my computer will reboot.
Also if I try to open up any of the folders in My Favorites after launching
IE it won't do anything either.
My home page is: http://finance.yahoo.com/ I'm wandering if this has
anything to do with pages with Flash or Java on them. But then again I do
have all the latest from them too.

I have no spyware or viruses (just checked using latest definitions).

Win XP Pro, Intel 3.8, 1G ram.

Thanks for any help

McCarty,
This very well may be the problem.
Although I do find it weird that Netscape is doing the very same thing.
And when I try to install IE 7 it goes through most of the installation and
then tells me it could not install IE 7. That I should restart the computer
because of that.

What do you mean by "lIE (atest version)"? IE6.0.2900.2180 or IE7
beta?

Have you looked in Event Viewer for any error records that correspond
to these reboots? Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section. In the Startup
and Recovery window click on the checkbox for "Automatically restart"
to clear it.

That should put an end to the reboots. However they may be replaced
by a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP error message. If that does happen
then the contents of the STOP message, including the STOP code & name,
all 4 parameters, and any file or module names mentioned will be a
direct clue as to the underlying cause of your problem. Post that
information back here if you need help with it.

Good luck

Ron,

I've found many, many errors in the Computer Management>Applications.
Most are called Application Hang. When I right-click and >properties I see
something called Fault bucket 126637809 when I click the link there I see
File Name - faultrep.dll. I wander if this is what's causing the IE problem.

I also just downloaded a trial version of RegCure from fix-errors.com and
they found 3142 total errors in my system.

Thanks

Jay

OK, it just happened again, this time after going through your steps I got
the blue screen the error message said this:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000014, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8050843c)

I sure hope this helps.

I would suspect that at least 3,141 of those are "false positives"
that the program reports so as to trick you into purchasing their
product.

Many of these registry fixers that proclaim loudly about how many
errors they found are pure unadulterated crapware that exist solely
for the purpose of transferring money from your wallet to theirs.

There are some legitimate registry cleaning utilities available, and
the best of these are free. However the circumstances where they are
actually needed are quite rare and what you have described so far does
not convince me that the problem is registry based.

It might. The culprit is whatever device driver or windows component
that is using memory address 0x8050843c

Open a Command Prompt window (Start - Run - CMD) and enter the
following command:

PSTAT

You will either get a an error message "'pstat' is not recognized as
an internal or external command" or you will get a wildly scrolling
screen of text.

If you get the error message then go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...76-9BB9-4126-9761-BA8011FABF38&displaylang=en
and download and install the Support Tools. Then try again to ensure
you have the program installed.

Now enter the following command:

PSTAT > C:\JUNK\PSTAT.TXT

(substitute any folder on your hard drive for the C:\JUNK\ part)
Then email me the pstat.txt file to (e-mail address removed) and I will
let you know the outcome.

Good luck

Ron,
I did what you told me and after installing the tools I downloaded, I
entered pstat into the Command Prompt that came installed in the Windows
Support Tools folder.
This time I got hundreds of lines but don't know how to save this to a text
file so I can send it to you.

Thanks

Thanks

1. Open a Command Prompt windows (Start - Run - Command)

2. Enter the following command (type it exactly as shown and then
press the Enter key)

MD C:\JUNK

3. Next enter the following command, again exactly as shown including
the spaces:

PSTAT > C:\JUNK\PSTAT.TXT

4. Send me the file c:\junk\pstat.txt as an email attachment.

Good luck
