Hey all,

I don't know if this is normal behaivior or not, but if I
downlad an image from the internet using IE, it
automatically adds a [1] into the file name.

So if I were to download test.jpg, it would be renamed
test[1].jpg

Is there any way to stop this?

For downloading,I am normally just dragone from the
Browser window on to my desktop or other local folder. Or
sometimes I am dragging directly into Outlook Express

Thanks in advance

Clean your TIF, there may be a reference in the index that a file test.jpg
exist.
The operating system may then add a [1] to protect the content in the tif.

Delete/Empty Temporary Internet Cache completely
How To: and with most operating system.

p.s. if you have a file test[1].jpg and copy an other file with the same
name does it create a test[2].jpg file?

The file that you are downloading do they have two dots in the file name.
Like "aaa.dd.jpg"?
I remember reading something in an article about this that in these
circumstances a notation [x] would be added in the file name. Looking for
this article. Will let you know if I find it.

I think this is /almost/ normal - I discovered this
filenaming behaviour while investigating a related - and
still unsolved (see topic " retry: 98SE/IE6: downloaded sgf
files disappear from TIF when trying to Open") - problem.

Apparently downloaded files that are directly opened by
another application (so, without first using Save As..., or
without showing them in the browser window) are temporarily
stored in the TIF (temporary Internet Files folder) and then
forwarded to the application using that temporary name.

Maybe you should just click on the hyperlink to show the
picture in the browser, and then save the pic, or use "Save
As..." from the hyperlink.
