my IE's home page options are all grayed out (unavailable)- address bar, 'use

Try the following and see if it helps:
Unlock My Homepage - Free
http://www.3ee.com/unlock.asp
UnlockHomePage.reg [right-click and select: Save As]
Unlocks the grayed-out Home Page section on the General Tab

If you have SpyBot, did you use the Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel".

First, open Spybot in Advanced mode and check the Immunize settings. You may
have placed this restriction inadvertently.
If not ... go to Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Scroll down to
"Various Registry Fixes."
Next (same page) check for parasites and other malware which may have caused
this, if Spybot didn't.
