I provided proxy settings in IE; can't remove them

Hi All,

I need to remove proxy settings I had established for IE. However, I am
unable to do so because when I open IE | Tools | Internet Options |
Connections [tab], the Settings button is grayed out. How can I
delete my settings? I'm running WinXP-Pro/SP2 with IE6, all up-to-date
with Microsoft Update.

Background, in case you're interested:

I was having trouble getting IE to access content from a locally
installed web server. I had provided it with the address
http://localhost:3000/say/list_pmts, which ran fine in Firefox, but IE
only gave me .a blank client area

I misunderstood a suggestion from a very helpful person and set the
proxy settings in an IE window to address=localhost and port=3000.

I then opened a new IE window. The address bar of this window
exhibited the URL of my Home Page. Despite that URL in the Address
Bar, the client area displayed the default page of my local webserver.
When I used http://localhost:3000/ (with no "say/list_pmts" appended)
in a Foxfire address bar, I got the same client area as my new IE
window.

Any suggestions on how to kill this proxy?

Regards,
Richard

Remove it in the Registry.
Start-Run-Regedit
It should be easy to find with a search. If not, report back and I
will look, though I suspect it will be in this area:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

Hi Alan,
... I suspect it will be in this area:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

It sure was, in the ProxyServer item with the value 427.0.0.1:3000.

When I voided that value, IE again honored the address of my home
page.

Thanks a lot. You're on the ball!!

Best wishes,
Richard

Hi Alan,
It sure was, in the ProxyServer item with the value 427.0.0.1:3000.

That's a typo, of course. Just for the record, the value was
127.0.0.1:3000, which I'm sure you knew.
