I have an Xp machine on our network that appears to hang
on websites at times. It is exhibiting the exact behavior
that is descrided in article 818506. However when I try
to install the patch 818506.exe it will not install . It
give me the error that IE 6 SP1 must be installed first.
I have installed IE 6 and rebooted. The about box shows
it is IE 6 with SP1. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Q818506 checks to see if the version of wininet.dll on your machine is
between 6.0.2800.1106 - 6.0.2800.1207. If your version is higher than this,
then that is why you receive the error message, and you should already have
the fix on that machine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help my version is higher 6.0.2800.1400
Unfortunatly I am still having the problem with IE
hanging. This is occuring on several machines. It seems
to still be the exact same behavior as descrided in the
article. We really noticed it when we had to change some
of the machines to look for new web pages every visit.
This is consitent with the article. This is an SBS 2003
network with ISA server. I have turned off web caching
but it has still not helped. When the machine hangs all
you get is "Done" for a response. Closing IE and clearing
the cache and starting IE again seems to work. However,
it is really causing some frustrated users. Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
