IE hangs and is very slow

I just downloaded service pack 4 and all of the critical
updates, and now my system is incredibly slow (I have
cable access). It takes minutes for some pages to load,
and at times they never load. I have already deleted temp
files, disc cleanup and defrag. Any suggestions?
