IE hangs after an update

Hi,
I am using Windows XP SP2 and having Windows Defender Beta2 running. On 31st
Dec 2006, Windows Defender beta stops working and I got a attack by some
adware - sivi.exe. My firewall starts showing sivi.exe is trying to access
internet. I ran spybot and it reinstalled Windows defender and now that
adware problem went. In the meantime, windows prompted that it has download
SP3 and I choose to install. While installing it prompted whether I want to
install IE7 or not. I choose "Later install" for IE7 as I was not sure. Now
Control Panel->add/remove program is showing only SP2 is installed and not
SP3. And all browing has become very very slow. I can somehow manage to open
some site from FireFox but IE6 is just hanging for all website. It keeps on
loading and stops all other process, absolutely no response and I am forced
to hard boot all the time.
Please advise

Thanks

There is no SP3 for the XP OS. Did you look in Add/Remove programs or go to
the Windows Update site, do a custom scan and check the update history to
see what update was installed? Uninstall the update through Add/Remove
programs and then do a System Restore to before the update was applied.

Never get driver updates from the windows update site.

Probably Office XP SP3, assuming Microsoft Update is your default.

Probably not related to installing Office XP SP3 or any other update, but
may be related to Malicious Software Removal Tool having found and removed a
Trojan.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
