IE freezes computer

I installed Windows Service Pack 2 several weeks ago and upon accessing IE
the whole computer would freeze when I downloaded files. I received
assistance via this newsgroup to change the TIF file to 50MB. I did this and
it solved the issue until 2 days ago. I still can download files most of the
time, but the computer is starting to freeze up when accessing some web
sites. It always seems to hang up when a picture is being downloaded to the
screen or so it seems. To reboot the machine the power has to be turned off
and this isn't good. I have an HP Pavilion 762, Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.26GHz,
512 MB of RAM. I have scanned the computer several times with Norton,
Cleansweep, Microsoft Antispyware beta 1 as well as used the Microsoft
malicious software tool remover and nothing is found. I don't know what else
to do to correct the problem. I do not want to uninstall Service Pack 2 but
that seems to be the only way IE will work for me. I want to avoid
reintalling IE as this may be beyond my ability. I installed the Mozilla
Fire Fox and it also hangs up.

I would be greatful for any solutions.

Hi MAXL :)

Have you tried clear the TIF's? This often solves the problem, and you
should do this on a weekly basis, or more often if you are accessing a lot
of graphics or photos.

Clearing the TIF Cache -

or.

Delete view off-line files not the pages File, Save as.

Hope this helps.
