IE Forgets form data when going Back

After submitting form data to a results page (ASP) if I go Back (use the
browsers Back button) IE remembers the data I entered in the form. However
if my results page contains a link which opens a new window (using javascript
window.open) and I click the link then close the new window, when I now go
Back IE has forgotten the form data.

Is this a bug in IE or is there a good reason for this?
